About This Program
The Texas Child Study Center is a specialty program within UT Health Austin Pediatric Psychiatry at Dell Children’s, a clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin.
Working in collaboration with the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, the Texas Child Study Center, housed at Dell Children’s Medical Center, diagnoses, treats, and manages the care for children and adolescents of all ages with emotional, behavioral, and developmental disabilities. We have developed evidence-based, disease-specific assessment and treatment programs to address conditions, such as autism spectrum disorders; anxiety disorders, including social phobia, specific phobias, separation anxiety, generalized anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder; depression, including self-injury and suicide attempts; and post-traumatic stress. We also provide assessment and treatment for children and adolescents with acute or chronic medical illnesses as well as other conditions, such as epilepsy, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, obesity, and traumatic injuries, to address co-occurring mental health issues that children with these conditions often face.
The Texas Child Study Center care team provide a wide range of services, from evaluation and diagnosis to medical management, psychiatric care, therapy services, and more, to give patients and their families the best quality of life.
If your child is showing symptoms of distress or mental illness, please call our 24/7 acute crisis line at 1-512-324-0029 to speak with a licensed counselor, who is qualified to understand your current situation and direct you to the appropriate services.
Treatment Approach
Through research programs in collaboration with the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, the Texas Child Study Center care team seeks to advance the understanding of the causes and treatment of emotional, behavioral, and developmental disorders in youth. Our team of experts are committed to providing the highest quality of emotional and cognitive treatment through psychiatric and psychological evaluations; neuropsychological and emotional testing; individual therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy; family therapy; parenting sessions, including behavioral parent training for conduct problems; medication management; and workshop trainings for community professionals.
Patients are cared for by a dedicated multidisciplinary care team, meaning your child will benefit from the expertise of multiple specialists across a variety of disciplines. Our board-certified and fellowship-trained mental health experts have extensive experience treating behavioral and mental health disorders and work alongside a team of pediatric specialists, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, and more, providing unparalleled care for patients every step of the way.
In addition to providing outpatient mental health treatment, we strive to address your child’s entire spectrum of physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. All of these areas impact your child’s quality of life and are an integral part of our mission at the Texas Child Study Center. We also collaborate closely with referring physicians and other partners in the community to schedule and coordinate any additional care services your child may need.
