About This Center
The Dell Children’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Center is a specialty program within UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children’s, a clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin.
The Pediatric Rehabilitation Center diagnoses, treats, and manages the care for children and adolescents with functional limitations as a result of medical conditions that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons. Our center’s inpatient program and outpatient clinics help children become as independent as possible within the scope of their diagnosis.
Our patients receive ongoing management and recommendations for rehabilitation interventions to support their neurodevelopmental recovery needs. Our goal is to enhance your child’s developmental and functional abilities so they can feel empowered to reach their greatest potential.

With access to the most advanced technology for treating both acute and chronic conditions, our expert staff provides a wide range of services from evaluation and consultation to disease management, rehabilitation, and more, giving patients and their families the best quality of life.
Treatment Approach
The Pediatric Rehabilitation Center care team are experts in addressing the full range of neurological, behavioral, and developmental problems in children, adolescents, and young adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
We do this through the following:
- Comprehensive evaluation for rehabilitation needs
- Recommendations to start or optimize therapy programs
- Evaluation for durable medical equipment (DME), including wheelchairs
- Evaluation for bracing or prostheses
- Evaluation for additional function-enhancing interventions
- Spasticity management, including botulinum toxin injections and intrathecal baclofen pump management
- Comprehensive multidisciplinary evaluation for concussion and mild brain injury
- Return to learn and return to play protocols
- Baseline ImPACT testing for concussion
- Comprehensive multidisciplinary evaluation for spasticity and movement disorders
Patients in the Dell Children’s Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation program and outpatient clinic are cared for by a dedicated interdisciplinary team, meaning your child will benefit from the expertise of many specialists across various disciplines. Our board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatric rehabilitation medicine specialists have extensive experience treating children of all ages and will continue coordinating care as your child transitions into adulthood.
To ensure the best outcomes possible, our rehabilitation medicine specialists work alongside a team of pediatric experts. These include physiatrists, hospitalists, nurses and nurse practitioners, social workers, psychologists, child life specialists, dietitians, physical and occupational therapists, speech therapists, and pharmacists, as well as many other clinicians. Our goal is to provide unparalleled care for patients and their families every step of the way.
We also collaborate closely with referring physicians and other partners in the community, including pediatricians, to schedule and coordinate any additional care services your child may need.

At your first appointment, you and your child will meet with one of our board-certified rehabilitation physicians for a thorough evaluation of your child’s needs. We will create a targeted treatment plan and determine whether to include any other providers in your child’s care.
