Clinical Biography

Priya Kumar-Kaparaboyna, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist in UT Health Austin's Women's Reproductive Mental Health of Texas within the Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences and Women's Health Maternal Fetal Medicine, a clinical partnership between Ascension and UT Health Austin. She specializes in perinatal and reproductive psychiatry. She provides psychiatric care during pregnancy and the postpartum period, including preconception planning. Additionally, Dr. Kumar-Kaparaboyna is an assistant professor in both the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Dell Medical School Department of Women’s Health.

Dr. Kumar-Kaparaboyna earned both her bachelor's in art and bachelor's in science from The University of Texas at Austin and her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. She completed a residency in general psychiatry at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a fellowship in women’s mental health at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Kumar-Kaparaboyna's clinical expertise includes the management of pre-existing mental health conditions in the perinatal period and the evaluation and treatment of new-onset pregnancy and postpartum related psychiatric concerns. Prior to joining UT Health Austin, she served as Director of the Perinatal Mental Health Program at Oregon Health and Science University. She currently provides perinatal psychiatry consultation through Texas’ perinatal access program, Peri-PAN.
