Clinical Biography
Pedro G. R. Teixeira, MD, is a board-certified vascular surgeon in the Institute for Cardiovascular Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension and UT Health Austin. He specializes in all aspects of vascular surgery, including arterial and venous diseases such as aortic aneurysms, aortic dissection, carotid disease, peripheral arterial disease, dialysis access, venous insufficiency, and thoracic outlet syndrome and collaborates with other surgical specialties on complex procedures requiring vascular exposure and reconstruction, such as tumor resections and spine instrumentation. Additionally, Dr. Teixeira is a professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Teixeira earned his medical degree from Federal University of Mines Gerais in Brazil. He completed a residency in general surgery, a fellowship in vascular surgery, and a second fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Southern California.
Dr. Teixeira's research focuses on the intersection of trauma and vascular surgery, advancing innovative principles for hemorrhage control, resuscitation strategies, and minimally invasive techniques to improve outcomes for injured patients. He has played a pivotal role in establishing and disseminating these principles through surgical education and scholarly contributions, authoring over 150 peer-reviewed articles. His expertise in vascular surgery, particularly in managing vascular injuries, is reflected in his role as co-editor of Vascular Injury: Endovascular and Open Surgical Management and his leadership as the current President of the Texas Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. His dedication to education is evident in his numerous teaching and mentorship awards. He is an active member of various national and international scientific organizations, including the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the American College of Surgeons, the Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, and the Society for Vascular Surgery.
