Pedro Teixeira, MD, is a board-certified vascular surgeon with the Institute for Cardiovascular Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension and UT Health Austin. His clinical practice encompasses all aspects of Vascular Surgery, including arterial and venous diseases such as aortic aneurysms and aortic dissection, carotid disease, peripheral arterial disease, dialysis access, venous insufficiency, and thoracic outlet syndrome. Dr. Teixeira also collaborates with other surgical specialties providing his vascular surgery expertise in complex surgeries requiring exposure and reconstruction of vascular structures, such as tumor resections and spine instrumentation. Additionally, Dr. Teixeira is a Professor of Surgery and Division Chief of Vascular Surgery at the University of Texas at Austin, Dell Medical School.

Dr. Teixeira earned his medical degree from Federal University of Mines Gerais, Brazil. He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Southern California where he also completed fellowships in vascular surgery and in surgical critical care. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, holding certifications in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.

Throughout his career, Dr. Teixeira has focused on the intersection of Trauma Surgery and Vascular Surgery, developing innovative principles of hemorrhage control, resuscitation strategies, and minimally invasive techniques to improve outcomes for injured patients. He has played a key role in establishing and disseminating these principles through surgical education and scholarly activities, and has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Teixeira's expertise in vascular surgery, particularly in the management of vascular injuries, has been recognized by his involvement as co-editor of a textbook entitled “Vascular Injury: Endovascular and Open Surgical Management” and his leadership roles in various professional organizations, including being the current President of the Texas Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. Dr. Teixeira's dedication to surgical education is evident in his numerous teaching and mentorship awards. He is an active member of various national and international scientific organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma and the Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery.
