Lucas M. Ferrer Cardona, MD is a vascular surgeon with the Institute for Cardiovascular Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension and UT Health Austin. He specializes in all aspects of vascular treatment of arterial and venous disorders. He has a special interest in diabetic foot amputation prevention and limb salvage, especially in foot vein arterialization for the “No Option” patient. Dr. Ferrer Cardona’s other clinical interests include minimally invasive treatments of carotid disease, dialysis access, and aortic aneurysms. Additionally, he is an assistant professor in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School.

Dr. Ferrer Cardona earned his medical degree at University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and completed his surgical internship and residency at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went on to obtain his fellowship training in Vascular Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston.

Dr. Ferrer Cardona is committed to providing excellent outcomes to patients with vascular disease and training the next generation of surgeons to meet the challenges of a demanding and changing field. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and focused his research interest in limb salvage including deep vein arterialization. He currently participates in clinical trials on the subject.
