About This Program
Colon and Rectal Surgery is offered through Digestive Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin.
The Colon and Rectal Surgery care team diagnoses, treats, and manages disorders of the colon, rectum, and anus in adult patients (18 years and older). We use the latest technology to deliver specialized procedures for both benign (noncancerous) and malignant (cancerous) conditions and offer personalized treatment options with a focus on increasing your overall quality of life. We also offer preventative services, such as routine screenings and examinations, to reduce your risk for developing cancer and increase your chances of early detection.
Located in the clinical spaces at UT Health Austin with access to full-scale hospital resources, Colon and Rectal Surgery provides the most advanced treatments available for patients in Central Texas and beyond with a focus on patient-centered outcomes, cutting-edge research, and medical education.
Colon and Rectal Surgery involves conventional and minimally invasive approaches, including to ensure patients have the best possible outcomes. Surgical options may include open surgery or minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery involving small incisions and endoscopic treatment options. Some procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis in which patients are able to return home the same day, while others may require a hospital stay.
Patients are cared for by a dedicated multidisciplinary care team, meaning you will benefit from the expertise of multiple specialists across a variety of disciplines. Our board-certified and fellowship-trained colon and rectal surgeons have extensive experience treating disorders of the lower digestive tract and work alongside a team of digestive health experts, including gastroenterologists, heartburn and esophageal disorders specialists, physician assistants, nurses, advanced practice providers, dietitians, social workers, and more, providing unparalleled care for patients every step of the way.
We collaborate closely with referring physicians and other partners in the community, including medical oncologists, urologists, gynecologists, and surgical oncologists, to schedule and coordinate any additional care services you may need.
We also collaborate with our colleagues at the Dell Medical School and The University of Texas at Austin to utilize the latest research, diagnostic, and treatment techniques, allowing us to offer surgical treatment plans specific to your needs.
